Amendment of the AI Act

On 19 November 2025, the European Commission published the Digital Omnibus proposal for AI, which aims to simplify the AI Act and better align it with practical use. On 7 May 2026, the European Parliament and the Council reached a provisional agreement on this.
This delays the obligations for high-risk AI applications from August 2026 to at the earliest December 2027.

Sustainability reporting streamlined

On 19 March 2026, the Omnibus I Directive came into force. It significantly raises the thresholds of the CSRD and CS3D, so these rules now only apply to the largest companies. Only very large companies (with more than approximately 1,000 employees and around €450 million turnover) still have to report on sustainability. For these companies, the obligations are also simplified and postponed, with the first reporting only around the 2027 financial year.

The treaty provides for closer cooperation through joint inspections, increased data exchange and a stronger approach to issues such as posting of workers, benefits and fraudulent schemes, with a focus on better worker protection.

Bulgaria joins the eurozone

On 1 January 2026, Bulgaria joined the eurozone. This makes it the 21st country where payments are made in euros. Only Poland, Romania, Sweden, the Czech Republic and Hungary currently do not use the single currency.
