27 September is not a public holiday
On 27 September, we celebrate the day of the French-speaking community. However, please note that while some companies or sectors may observe this day, it is not one of the 10 public holidays.
To find out if there is a conventional holiday in your sector, it is best to check the Joint Committees. Select your joint committee and navigate to 'Holidays and extralegal leave > Extralegal leave > Cultural leave'.
Our tip:
Although 27 September is not a public holiday, banks in Wallonia are closed on this day (banks in Brussels remain open). Therefore, you will not be able to carry out banking transactions on that day. Additionally, electronic payments of wages will not be possible. Please keep this in mind when processing payments.

Stricter conditions for Flemish training leave (VOV)
Employees in the private sector can take Flemish training leave (VOV) under certain conditions as part of their ongoing education. They will receive their normal (limited) pay for the training days attended, and you can reclaim a portion of this wage cost from the Flemish region. Starting from the new school year, the conditions will become stricter.

Federal Learning Account (FLA)
The implementation of the FLA has been postponed again. The new deadline is now 1 January 2026, shifted from 1 September 2025. This delay allows the government more time to create a system that is less administratively burdensome.
Until 1 January 2026 at the latest, you must register your employees' training days and their use (i.e. the training courses taken and their duration). You can choose between your own internal registration system or use the FLA.

Supplementary pension for construction employees
For employees (PC 200) in the construction sector, a sectoral supplementary pension has been in place since 1 January 2023. In 2026, this will be expanded to include a solidarity component. If you have your own pension plan and wish to remain 'outside the scope', you must submit additional documents by 15 September 2025.
