Who is a paid sports practitioner?
To be considered a paid sports practitioner, a sports practitioner must meet two conditions.
- Firstly, sports practitioners must commit to preparing for or participating in a sports competition or exhibition under the authority of another person.
- Additionally, they must receive a minimum annual salary. This amount is adjusted every year on July 1.
This amount includes everything the sports practitioner is entitled to: the fixed monthly salary, as well as variable elements such as match bonuses, benefits in kind, travel allowances, profit-sharing bonuses, and the refund of expenses.
Paid sports practitioners fall under the joint committee 223 and are subject to the Law of February 24, 1978, concerning the labour contract for paid sports practitioners.
This law also applies to football coaches, football referees, as well as coaches in basketball, volleyball, and cycling, provided that their salary meets the minimum amount mentioned above.
The amount on July 1, 2025
The annual amount has remained unchanged since July 1, 2022, at 11,040 euros and is valid from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026.
