Every day is a new chance for you to start your day bright and fresh. But how do you make sure that you can start optimally? I’m happy to be able to share some tips on a healthy morning routine with you in this blog post.

A healthy morning routine for entrepreneurs
1. A perfect morning begins the day beforeA good start is half the battle. Starting your day off strong begins with a good night’s sleep. Rest is necessary to give the brain the chance to process experiences and for the body to recover. Anyone who does not sleep, or does not sleep deep enough, cannot rest well either.

Many entrepreneurs underestimate how long they need to sleep. Maybe you think you’ll get by with five hours of sleep, but nothing could be further from the truth. On average, an adult needs seven to eight hours of sleep a day. 

Five hours of sleep a day is not enough for anyone. While sleeping, you pass through different phases. Sufficiently deep sleep is necessary for everyone to be able to function efficiently throughout the day. During this phase, the body recovers and builds up energy for the next day. 

The five phases of the sleep cycle are repeated four to five times each rest period. However, if you only sleep for five hours, there is a good chance that this cycle cannot be repeated sufficiently, which means that you will start the day less rested. But you can be sure of this fact with eight hours of sleep a day.

Tip: use a sleep app to analyse and improve your sleep pattern. For example, the Sleep Cycle app wakes you up in your light sleep. That way, you don’t feel like you’re waking up tired. 

2. Leave your smartphone in another roomA bad habit nowadays is to fall asleep and wake up with your smartphone. We quickly watch the news before we go to sleep and when we wake up we immediately check our mailbox. Doing this, however, will immediately overload your brain.
 
It is best to put your smartphone in the other corner of your bedroom or even in another room in the house. This makes it easier for you to resist temptation.

3. Give your brain a chance to wake upIt’s best to start the day with a fresh glass of water and a good book (or maybe the newspaper). The brain is still waking up and you can feed it by reading. Your brain is also at its most creative in the morning and can store the most information. A good book, whether it’s relevant to your profession or not, can provide enormous added value.

4. Choose a light, healthy breakfastDid you know that processing food requires an enormous amount of energy from your body? Have you noticed that after a heavy lunch you are a lot less productive than before? That’s because your body has to pull out all the stops to digest all that food.
Unfortunately, that also means that your brain gets less attention, and therefore you have less focus.
 
That’s why it’s best to start the day with a light and healthy breakfast; this way, you don’t lose too much energy in digesting it. Always choose a source of protein, supplemented with fats and a minimum amount of carbohydrates. This can be a healthy yoghurt with fruit and nuts or a protein-rich shake, for example. You will notice that you have more energy, even if you consume less food.

5. Get a move on!I like to start the day with a running session or a fifteen-minute swim. This way my body gets a boost and immediately knows that it must perform. This in turn is beneficial for your mind because the exertion sharpens your focus again.
In addition, it is good for your health and weight, which will make you feel much more vital throughout the day.
 
Tip: you can also exchange the physical effort for breathing exercises or yoga


The intention here isn’t to adjust your entire morning routine right away because you’ll have a hard time keeping up if you do it that way. Try to change your patterns step by step so that they become new habits. This is the only way to ensure that you build up a healthy morning routine.
