Bad posture and movements take an additional toll on the body. Overstraining injuries can develop in the tendons, the muscles, nerves at the height of one’s shoulders, elbows, wrists and/or lower back. Symptoms include stiffness, tingling, loss of force, pain, etc. These overstraining injuries are the consequence of an interaction between factors such as repetitive movements, excessive efforts, work rhythm, work duration. But the work organisation, the speed of execution, excessive work pressure or a straining work environment can play a role too. Securex can teach people to use tools and resources correctly and to make the right movements, using an integrated approach.
Whether you are renovating or refurbishing, it is always the right time to call on our ergonomists. Often interventions are quite simple: e.g., the right working height, the range, etc., which make the difference. Our ergonomist will review the plan with you and will give advice. This will help you avoid complaints and the ensuing absenteeism.
Such an ergonomic evaluation takes place in the frame of your global prevention plan or of individual and collective complaints.
First, the ergonomist will conduct an observation intervention: based on scientific evaluation methods, the ergonomist will carry out a task analysis and will evaluate the lifting risk and the burden as regards posture. This gives an idea of the extent of the risk of posture-related complaints for an individual or a group of employees.
This is followed by a participative intervention. The ergonomist will review the workstation together with the employees concerned, according to a constructive method and will look for solutions.
You will receive a report including practical solutions and improvement advice. This offers the opportunity to set priorities in the action plan.
In a two-hour, interactive session, we will work on raising awareness regarding posture and movement at work. A simple, solutions-oriented, participative risk analysis will increase the involvement among employees about what’s happening on the work floor. We provide an explanation regarding the basic principles of healthy posture and movement. If necessary, we also provide a first session of posture training.
A short, but essential dynamic posture training will teach employees the basic posture of ergonomic work. We will repeat this session during the awareness training as well as at the beginning of each training.
Based on the outcome of the (participative) risk analysis, we will choose a number of work techniques and movements, which we will teach and practice. These sessions are organised in small groups, with existing equipment, sometimes even on the job. The emphasis is on individual corrections and coaching.
Repeat sessions are absolutely necessary to arrive at a durable effect. You can call on Securex to assure the coaching sessions on the work floor. But Securex Health & Safety Solutions can also help you train an internal coach (see below).
The coach will supervise ergonomic work in your organisation and will further develop it. To this end, he has to have the necessary knowledge and practical skills, as well as a number of paedagogical qualities. The proposed train the trainer course is devised in such a way that coaches deploy and develop these skills during four days of training. The internal coach can always rely on the support of our ergonomists.
