The law prescribes different incidences during which certain employees require a medical exam. Securex checks these legal duties against your employees, and invites them, if necessary, for an exam.
Exam prior to hiring
Are you planning to hire an employee for a position, which requires regular medical supervision? Then he will have to be examined by our prevention adviser/physician before starting on the job.
This period can be extended to 30 days after the hiring (except if the employee is hired for a period shorter than 30 days, or if he is exposed to ionising rays).
Periodical exam Any employee included in the risk categories has to be periodically examined by the occupational health physician. In principle, this occurs on an annual basis, and the check can be complemented with intermediary targeted checks.
There are two important exceptions to this: for VDT workers, whose work entails a risk, the check takes place every five years for employees under 50 and every three years for people over 50. For employees whose only risk entails the manual handling of burdens, the check takes place every three years for persons under 45 and once a year for persons over 45.
Medical check upon reprise of work Was an employee at risk out of action for more than four weeks? Then he has to see the occupational health physician within eight days after reprising work. He or she will then check whether the employee is capable of safely reprising work. Employees who are not included in the risk categories are also entitled to such an exam prior to reprising work. But they have to request the exam themselves.
Is the burden at work too heavy for the employee? Then the employer can take measures or opt in favour of a transfer.
A visit prior to reprising work Any employee, subjected or not to this rule, has the right to a visit with a health practitioner prior to reprising work in case of unfitness for work for four or more weeks, with a view of adapting their work station if the .
This visit should enable the occupational health physician to suggest adapted measures to the employer (adaptation of the work station or labour conditions) in order to reduce the burden associated with this job and to aid the employee upon reprising his work.
Exam in case of a change of job or activity
Any employee who changes jobs and is exposed to new risks has to be examined by the occupational health physician.
Spontaneous consultation
Every employee can consult the occupational health physician for issues related to his professional activity.
Health assessment of an employee who is permanently unfit for work with a view to his reintegration
Is an employee declared permanently unfit for work by the physician treating him? Then he requests a reintegration procedure; the occupational health physician will then check which activities he can still carry out.
Check-up for specific employee categories
There are specific check-ups for these employees too. The most important check-up is all checks conducted in the context of protecting future and new mothers.
If there are specific risks associated with the job of the pregnant employee, then the employer has to notify the occupational health physician as soon he himself is informed.
After the medical exam the occupational health physician will formulate a number of recommendations (adaptation of the work station, change of work station or removal) and his decision concerning the employee’s (un)fitness to carry out her job.
