Joining a social insurance fund

Who needs to join?

Every self-employed person, whether in primary or in secondary profession, has to join a social insurance fund.

Are you self-employed in primary profession? Then your social insurance fund is your only link with social security. In order to enjoy benefits and healthcare, you need to join and pay contributions.

Are you self-employed as regards a secondary profession, and do you also work as an employee? Then you are entitled to social benefits and healthcare via your employer. Your affiliation with a social insurance fund merely serves to register your self-employed activity.

When do I need to join?

Within 90 days of starting up your self-employed activity.
